Roof maintenance for the Aspegrens garden
- WASHING AND PAINTING OF THE ROOF
1) Tell us briefly about the Aspegrens Garden Foundation
– The Aspegrens Garden Foundation is responsible for the Rosenlund area in Jakobstad, which is classified as a “Built cultural environment of national interest.” My name is Gunnar Smeds, and I am a board member responsible for the area’s buildings, among other things.
Board member Gunnar Smeds and CEO of AMP Services, Glenn Snellman, are overseeing the roof project for the barn at Rosenlund in Jakobstad.
2) What was your need when you contacted AMP Services?
– We applied for funding from the Finnish Heritage Agency in the fall of 2021 and needed a cost estimate for the project.
3) What type of roof do you have?
– The roof on the historic stone barn was in poor condition, with small rust spots beginning to appear here and there. We concluded that the roof needed repainting before the rust spread further. The roof is approximately 790 m², made of double-folded galvanized sheet metal, on a protected stone barn from the 1770s.
4) How old is the roof?
– The roof dates back to the 1970s and was painted in the 1990s.
5) What service did you choose?
– We chose roof painting, which included washing, sanding about a hundred rust spots, applying anti-rust paint, rust-protective primer, and final painting, as well as minor repairs to gutters and fascia boards.
Evert Pesämaa from AMP Services is spray-painting the barn roof with anti-corrosion paint.
6) Did you encounter any challenges during the project?
– In some areas, it was difficult to reach. Clear sunshine and heat also needed to be considered during the work.
7) How did AMP address the issues?
– They used appropriate lifts and chose the timing and areas carefully to avoid overly hot roof surfaces during painting.
Ludvig Snellman from AMP Services is painting the metal trims by hand from a skylift.
8) Who from AMP carried out the work?
– Evert Pesämaa, Ludvig Snellman, and Jonatan Häggman.
9) When was the project completed?
– The project was carried out from June 12 to June 22, 2023.
10) How did you hear about AMP Services?
– Our housing association used them once. They are one of the few local companies in this field.
11) Would you recommend AMP Services to other organizations with historic cultural properties?
– I would definitely recommend AMP Services for historic cultural properties. The collaboration went smoothly, taking into account the public activities conducted in the area.
The roof of the 1770s barn was painted with “museum black,” a mix of two parts black and one part brown. The barn is part of a built cultural environment of national interest.
